Loribeth Mau, Chief Financial Officer and Founding Member of The Daedalus Collective is a National Board Certified teacher who holds an Early Childhood Generalist Certificate. She has a B.A. in Human Development and a M.Ed from the University of California, Riverside. For the past 15 years, Loribeth has worked as an elementary school teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). As a National Board Certified Teacher since 2013, she has worked as a new teacher mentor, and provided professional development in multiple content areas at the classroom, district and state level. She has worked with organizations such as The Instructional Leadership Corp (created by Stanford University’s Center for Opportunity Policy Education and California Teachers Association), UCLA Center X, LAUSD’s Division of Instruction, and LAUSD Local District East NBCT Science cohort. These professional development opportunities allow Loribeth to develop the capacity of teachers to understand the 3 dimensions of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Her goal is to also increase the number of elementary science teachers that can facilitate effective science pedagogy for the NGSS.
Coupled with her understanding that teachers need to continuously develop professionally, she also knows teachers face complex challenges unique to the profession that threaten their physical and mental health. Thriving on collaboration and working alongside educators who are passionate about learning, Loribeth strives to support teachers professionally and personally by being a good listener, empathetic, and teacher friend to all who need one. Lastly, Loribeth’s accounting skills and attention to detail lend themselves to overseeing the organization’s financial planning, management of financial assets, and record-keeping. But her greatest contribution to the Daedalus Collective is her positive belief in people and her enthusiasm to enact change within the communities that she serves. Faced with day-to-day challenges that impact teachers inside and outside of their classrooms, Loribeth lives and teaches by the quote, “Never give up.”
